Description

“By foregrounding an element of content usually taken for granted and invisible, a whole new artistic mode or direction can be discovered.” — Thomas McEvilley (1939–2013)

This book does exactly that. After an introduction by noted photography critic and historian A. D. Coleman, I open with landscapes in places that offer particularly evocative geology, I dive into their details in rock and ice, and come up with strong original compositions, both abstract and figurative, including aerials and caves. Chapter texts explain the theory and procedure underlying the images, citing historical precedent. Then I take off in an entirely new direction, using the hyper-wide-angle and distorting fisheye lens to transform unusual geological configurations in to heavenly bodies and dystopian scenes. The last chapter tells how to do what I’ve done, including where to go to find rock subjects. An appendix shows scenes from six of these places. With bibliography and index of sites. 196pp, 210 images, 28,000 words of text. Go to flip-book sample: https://online.1stflip.com/dzoq/3qs9/
